On March 15, we held the 8th Spinoza Connection at Hitotsubashi Univ.. More than 20 people attended the workshop and they actively discussed. First, Ms. Shiori Tsuda( Hitotsubashi Univ.)clarified that Baumgartens’s criticism of Spinoza(Spinozism)is about Spinoza’s concept of Pantheism and the single substance of god. Second, Prof. Yo Teshirogi(Kobe City College of Technology)introduced the criticism of Spinoza by Wolff in “Theology of Nature”, and pointed three issues, the infinity of substance, finite beings as extension of attribute, and Fatalism. These presentations made clear interpretation of Spinoza in 17C, and told us necessity for more comprehensive research, reaching Descartes.
